Some of the greatest inventions were born from a desire to serve the public and meet its needs - the light bulb, the train, the automobile. Sure these inventions became massive industries, but they began with public service in mind. Love Is The Greatest Revenge is Tremolo's first invention, and hopefully, a public service as well. The fact you bought this record, read the liner, and came online to this site says something in an age when mp3s circulate so freely as to be disposable. That took integrity, which is why we're asking you the question behind the record:
- What if love was the greatest revenge?
- What if music could change the world?
- And what if it all happened with the distinct passions and imaginations of people like you?
Tremolo hopes to release not just a record, but an "idea". We want to see love in our world become greater than revenge. To see a moment when revenge seems appropriate, but love wins instead. From world politics, to personal relationships. Swords into plowshares. A cosmos amidst the chaos.
The record is just the mere outline of a script; we're asking you, the people who bought it, to be the actors, producers, directors. Something is happening in the 21st-century Western world. We seem to be waking up to the excess and wealth we have and asking ourselves what such power and privilege obliges us to do. Groups of people from all around are starting to take notice of the world's plight and focusing resources toward it. Projects like Live 8 and the One Campaign, for instance, are part of an effort to bring hope and dignity to a forgotten continent. But you don't have to be famous or wait for a crisis to make a difference. Surely this young millennium has proven many times over just how uncertain our span of days can be. Windows open and shut quickly in the Western world, so Tremolo wants this record and this fund to give our fans an open window, right away, from Day 1. How big it is, how long it's open and where it leads is up to you. The fact you bought this record suggests you, too, are driven by more than just expedience and personal gain. What moves you? What makes you angry? Take your revenge by showing love. We're giving you a window; it's up to you to jump through.
Toward that end, we have set up this LOVE>REVENGE FUND and Web site. Into this fund, we are placing 50% of all record royalties due to Tremolo. If you have purchased Love Is The Greatest Revenge, you essentially control this fund. You are, in fact, on the Board of Trustees. You decide where the money goes based on how you would like to see the world change for the better.
We could just give the money to some charity that means something to us personally, but we would rather build a community around this record that decides where it should go together. And hopefully in the process, stir each other's passions for the causes that mean the most to us individually.
HOW THIS WORKS
Once you purchase the record (store or digital download) you become a member of the Fund. Register to join the fund by clicking here or the "not a member yet" link from the home page. After answering a few security questions, you'll be able to create log-in information you can use indefinitely. Once that's settled, it's time for you to tell all of us your plan to save the world through the online forum. Is it AIDS research? Music programs in urban schools? Anti-human trafficking efforts? It doesn't have to be big; it just has to be concrete. Sometimes small acts of compassion have the greatest impact. Tell us and each other why you are passionate about this cause, the one organization you think is doing the best work, and what we can do to help.
Through the forums, members can dialogue about what organizations are working best for their causes. Only members can post and reply on the forums, but visitors to the site are encouraged to view the discussion. A voting box on the home page will contain the top five organizations elected by members from the previous quarter. Different organizations you suggest will also be highlighted on the home page. The voting box is open to any visitors. Anyone can vote, but members decide the candidates. At the end of each fiscal quarter, Tremolo will cut a check representing 50% of its royalties from that quarter to the top-ranked charity.
This is a new idea and we are still learning as we go. Our passion is to stir your passion. We want to be one part of the soundtrack for hope and change in our world. Maybe love will become greater than revenge.
